Happy National Ag Day! Agriculture touches all of us — providing the food we eat and the fibre we need for shelter or clothing, every day. That’s worth celebrating!
In the lead up to this National Ag Day, George the Farmer and I hit the road to visit a local farm and winery here in Coonawarra, called Majella. We went with our mates from Muirs.co who have helped the Lynn family (of Majella) for over 10 years. It was a perfect sunny day to check out some grazing paddocks and some vines. At this time of year the team at Muirs are keeping a keen eye on signs of disease like downy mildew and checking that there aren’t any pests present like the Light Brown Apple Moth. Everything looked fantastic!

After the visit, I left George to it and jumped in the tractor back on our farm to help with rolling. Justin’s been planting a pasture mix for the cattle of lucerne, phalaris, pasja and chickory. It’s been a nice change up to jump in the cab and away from the computer writing George the Farmer picture books! There’s always something happening in ag—it’s such a diverse sector, and it’s always busy!
So here’s cheers to the farmers, ag teachers, scientists, ag professionals working in the city and everyone in between—National Ag Day is a day to celebrate everybody involved in the whole supply chain who brings us food and fibre. Happy National Ag day!
